The island offers a wonderful landscape of hills and coastlines to explore and discover. It is home to over 250 bird species, including the rare White-tailed Sea-eagle and Golden Eagle, and there are many bird-watching tours offering local knowledge. There are endless mountain, hill and coastal walks in a range of idyllic scenery, from the 3169ft Ben More to the white sands of Calgary Beach.
Boat trips leave regularly for the smaller surrounding islands, including Iona, Ulva and Staffa, with the spectacular basalt rock formation of Fingal’s Cave. Mull also has a rich history, with many interesting historical sites including Duart and Torosay castle, which can be visited as part of a trip on the island’s steam train.
There are great locations for fishing and golf in dramatic surroundings, as well as several cycle routes along quiet roads and tracks of varying levels of difficulty.
As the main town on Mull, Tobermory enjoys many of the attractions as well as being an ideal base for exploring the island. Boat trips leave from the sheltered harbour, providing tours of local marine-life (including whales, dolphins, porpoises, seals and sharks). Its’ iconic multi coloured main street was made famous in the children's programme Balamory and the various settings can be spotted throughout the town.
The island has something to offer everyone and Bookend Cottage is a perfect location to experience its unique scenic beauty. |
